MICROSOFT OFFICE WORD 2007 CLASS INTRODUCTION

MICROSOFT WORD: It can be define as a member of Microsoft office that is used for test editing and it is also called the world processor.

USES OF MICROSOFT WORD

(1) It is use for letter writing

(2) It is use for typing of project

(3) It is use for creating letter headings and curriculum vitae (CV)

(4) It is use for Data and text editing

HOW TO OPEN MICROSOFT WORD ENVIRONMENT

There are three method of opening Microsoft word environment

FIRST METHOD:

  1. Click on start bar
  2. Then start menu will appear
  3. Search for Microsoft word 2007 and click
  4. Then the environment will display

SECOND METHOD

  1. Click on start bar
  2. Then the start menu will appear
  3. Click on all programs
  4. Click on Microsoft office 2007
  5. Search for Microsoft word 2007 offices and click

 

 

THIRD METHOD

  1. Right click on the window desktop
  2. Click on new
  3. Click on Microsoft word 2007 document
  4. Click outside
  5. Move to the file and right click
  6. Click on open

FEATURES OF MICROSOFT OFFICE WORD 2007

There are bars and buttons that makes up Microsoft word environment.

1. TITLE BAR: It is the first line bar of the Microsoft environment that displays the name of the current file you are working on. It also carries minimize, maximize button and close button.

MINIMIZE BUTTON: It is used to minimize or reduce program

MAXIMIZE BUTTON: It is used to close or quit a program

CLOSE BUTTON: Is used to close the environment of your page

 

2. MENU BAR/TOOLS BAR

It is the second line bar of the Microsoft word 2007 environment that contains list of items like file menu, edit, view, home, tools, and table menu, format, page setup, insert, e.t.c.

Note: under these menus we have other menus on them.

Under home menu, we have paste, font, font size, bold e.t.c.

Under insert menu we have tables, pictures, clipart, shapes e.t.c.

Under page-layout menu, we have margins, orientations watermarks e.t.c. and same to other menus.

 

 

. RULER BAR/ MARGIN LINE: It is the bar that is used to measure the top, bottom, left and right of a page.

N/B: There are horizontal ruler bar and vertical ruler bar.

 

HORIZONTAL RULER BAR: It is used to measure left and right margin of a page.

VERTICAL RULER BAR: It is used to measure the top and bottom margin of a page.

6. TASK BAR: Is a bar that carries the windows of any package or programs you are working on.

 

7. SCROLL BAR: it is used to view the environment of a page.

N/B: We have the horizontal scroll bar and vertical scroll bar.

 

 

PAGE BAR: It is the bar that displays the number of page you are working on

HOW TO SET YOUR PAGE 2007:

  1. Open your Microsoft word environment
  2. Click on page layout.
  3. Click on margins.
  4. Click on custom margins.
  5. Then page setup dialogue box will appear
  6. Click on margin
  7. Click on top margin and type in 3cm
  8. Bottom margin 2cm
  9. left margin 3cm
  10. Right margin 3cm

After typing your margin click on paper orientation and choose either portrait or landscape

After choosing your paper orientation click on paper then open your paper and open letter click on A4 paper.

Then click on ok.

HOW TO SAVE YOUR WORK 2007

  1. Go to menu bar, click on file bottom
  2. Click on save As
  3. Then the save as dialogue box will appear
  4. Type in your file name
  5. Click on save (ctrl & S)

HOW TO OPEN A SAVE WORK 2007

1. Open the package you worked on

2. Go to menu bar, click on file bottom

3. Click on open

4. Then the open dialogue box will appear

5. Search for the file name and click

6. Click on open (ctrl & O)

1. Highlight the text

2. Go to home

3. Click on center (Ctrl E)

1. Highlight the text

2. Go to home

3. Click on align left (ctrl L)

HOW TO MOVE TEXT TO THE RIGHT SIDE

1. Highlight the text

2. Go to home

3. Click on align right (ctrl R)

1. Click on the left side of your text

2. Go to the keyboard

3. Press enter key

  1. click on the left side of your text
  2. go to the keyboard
  3. press backspace key

1. Highlight the text

3. Click on bold (ctrl& B)

HOW TO UNDERLINE A TEXT

1. Highlight the text you want to underline

2. Go to home

3. Click on underline (ctrl U)

HOW TO REMOVE UNDERLINE TEXT

Highlight the underline text you want to remove

2. Go to home

3. Click on underline (ctrl U)

HOW TO APPLY COLOUR TO A TEXT

1. Highlight the area of the text you want to apply colors to

2. Go to home

3. Click on font colors

4. Choose any desired color

HOW TO REMOVE COLOUR FROM A TEXT

Highlight the area of the text you want to remove colors to

2. Go to home

3. Click on font colors

4. Click automatic color

HOW TO RULE A LINE

1. Go to menu bar

2. Click on insert

3. Click on shapes

3. Click on lines

4. Move to where you want to draw the line

5. Click and drag

HOW TO BOLD A LINE

1. Click on the line for two dots to appear

2. Go to format

3. Click on shape outline

4. Click on 2½ pt or any of your choice

5. Click outside

HOW TO JUSTIFY TEXT

JUSTIFY:

Justify: means to make the body text be in accurate shape.

STEPS OF JUSTIFICATION

1. Highlight the body of the letter

2. Go to home

3. Click on justify (ctrl J)

HOW TO APPLY A LINE SPACING TO A TEXT

1. Highlight the body of the letter

2. Got to home

3. Click on line spacing

4. Click on 1.5 “OR” any of your choice

HOW TO APPLY A PARAGRAPH

1. Click at the left side of the text

  1. Go to the keyboard
  2. Press your tab key

NOTE: If the text you want to apply paragraph is at the middle or right side of the page, click on the left side of the text and press the enter key before you can press your tab key.

HOW TO MOVE UP YOUR TEXT IN GROUP E.G. ADDRESS

  1. Highlight the group of text you want to move
  2. Got to home
  3. Click on increase indent to move text forward (tab key)
  4. click on decrease indent to move text backward (shift & tab)

HOW TO APPLY BULLET AND NUMBERING

  1. Highlight the area you want to apply bullet or numbering
  2. Go to home
  3. Click on bullet and numbering
  4. Click on numbers or bullet of your choice

HOW TO APPLY CHANGE CASE

Change case is use to change a text from capital letter to small letter

1. Highlight the area you want to apply change case to

2. Go to menu bar

3. Click on home

4. Click on change case

5. Choose any of your choice

NOTE: We have five types of change case

1. Sentence case

2. Lower case

3. Upper case

4. Title case

5. Toggle case

 

1. SENTENCE CASE: Is for the first letter of every sentence to be in capital letter.

2. LOWER CASE: Is for every letter of a sentence to in small letter.

3. UPPER CASE: Is for every letter of a sentence to be in capital letter

4. TITLE CASE: Is for the letter of any word to be in capital letter while the rest should be in small letter.

5. TOGGLE CASE: Is for the first letter of any word to be in small letter while the rest in capital letter

NOTE: For the keyboard, the keyboard method shift, f3 will give you all the casing.

 

MEANING OF GREEN LINES THAT APPEARS SOME TIMES WHEN YOU ARE TYPING

The green line that appears under the text when you are typing indicates or tells you that the texts are too close to each other or far from each other.

MEANING OF REDS LINES THAT APPEARS SOME TIMES WHEN YOU ARE TYPING

The red line tells you that the words are not well spelt or are not found in dictionary or the word or the word is a native word.

HOW TO REMOVE THE GREEN AND RED LINE

1. Place your mouse pointer to any of the line

2. Then you right click and choose the right word

3. Or ignore all

HOW TO CHECK SPELLINGS AND GRAMMAR

1. Highlight the body of the letter

2. Click on review

3. Click on spelling and grammar

4. Spelling and grammar dialogue box will appear

5. Check for the right spelling of the word and click.

HOW TO APPLY PAGE NUMBERING

1. Go to menu bar, click on insert

2. Click on page numbering

3. Click on top, bottom

4. Click on format page number

5. Choose your desired Number

6. Click on start at

7. Type in the number you want to start on

8. Click on ok

HOW TO APPLY NIRA SIGN (N)

1. Type capital N and highlight

2. Click on home

3. Click on strikethrough

HOW TO CREATE A LETTER HEADING ON MICROSOFT WORD 2007

  1. Open Microsoft word environment
  2. Go to insert
  3. Click on insert word art
  4. The insert word art gallery will appear
  5. Click on the first word art or choose any one
  6. Then type your text
  7. click on bold, click on size 20
  8. click on font and choose eg (monotype corvisa)
  9. Click on OK

HOW TO ARRANGE WORDART TEXT

  1. Click on the word art text
  2. click on format
  3. Click on text wrapping
  4. Click on in font of text
  5. Then use the arrow key on your keyboard to move it to any direction of your choice.

HOW TO EXPAND THE WORD ART TEXT

  1. Click on the word art text for the dot to appear
  2. Place your mouse pointer at any of the dot
  3. Click and drag to any direction to expand it

HOW TO APPLY COLOUR TO YOUR WORD ART

  1. Click on the word are text
  2. Click on format
  3. Click on shape fill
  4. Then choose any color of your choice
  5. Click on shape outline
  6. Click on no outline

HOW TO APPLY WORD ART SHAPE

  1. Click on wordart text
  2. Click on format
  3. Click on change wordart shape
  4. Click on word art shape
  5. Then click on any one of your choice

HOW TO APPLY SHADOW TO YOUR WORD ART TEXT

  1. Click on word art text
  2. Click on format
  3. Click on shadow effect
  4. Click on shadow style of your choice

HOW TO APPLY TWO COLORS TO YOUR WORD ART TEXT

  1. Click on word art text
  2. Click on format
  3. Click on shape fill
  4. Click on gradient
  5. Click on more gradient
  6. Click on two colors
  7. Then open the first color and choose any color of your choice.
  8. Open the second color and choose any colour of your choice
  9. Go to sample and choose your desired sample
  10. Click on ok

HOW TO EDIT WORD ART TEXT

1. Click on word art text

2. Click on format

3. Click on edit text

4. Then you add or remove any word you want

5. Click on ok

HOW TO MAKE A PLANE LETTER HEADING

1. Use your word art text for the letter heading

2. Click on insert, click on insert wordart & choose & type

3. Then give it a font character (Bernard Mt condensed) bold, click on ok, click on the text, click on format and click on text wrapping, click on in front of text, then expand it.

4. Go to shape fill

5. Then apply two colors, click on shape outline click on no outline line.

 

HOW TO USE YOUR TEXT BOX EG ADDRESS

1. Click on insert

2. Click on text box

3. Click on draw text box

4. Move to where you to type

5. Click and draw a rectangle box that will contain it.

6. Click on shape outline, click on no outline

7. Go to fill color and click no fill

8. Then type

9. After typing the text, highlight the txt, apply color

10. Go to font size and give it 12 bold & center.

HOW TO APPLY SYMBOL – EXAMPLE PHONE SYMBOL

1. Click on where you want the symbol to appear or be

2. Go to menu bar

3. Click on insert

4. Click on symbol, click on more symbol

5. Then symbol dialogue box will appear

6. Choose a symbol of your choice

7. Click on insert and close

8. Then highlight and give it color

HOW TO DESIGN A LOGO [EXAMLPE USING AN OVAL SHAPE]

  1. click on insert
  2. click on shapes
  3. Click on oval shapes
  4. Then draw
  5. click on format
  6. Click on shape fill
  7. click on gradient, click on more gradient
  8. click on two colors
  9. Then you open the first color and choose

10. Open the second color and choose then ok

11. Click on shape outline

12. Click on no outline

13. Click no oval again

14. Then draw it inside the first oval

15. Arrange the oval

16. Click on shape outline

17. Click on no outline

HOW TO APPLY TEXT INSIDE

  1. Click on where you want the text to appear
  2. Click on insert
  3. Click on insert word art
  4. Choose and click on the first word art
  5. Then you type eg “F.W.N”
  6. Click on size, bold, font & choose & ok
  7. Click on text
  8. click on format
  9. Click on text wrapping
  10. Click on font of text
  11. Then click on the text and give it two colors
  12. Then click and drag inside the oval

HOW TO GROUP AN OBJECT

  1. Click on home
  2. Click on select object
  3. Then you move to the object
  4. Click outside and drag to cover the logo/object
  5. Click on format
  6. Click on Group
  7. Then move it to where it suppose to be

HOW TO APPLY PRINTED WATER MARK

  1. Click on page-layout
  2. Click on watermark
  3. Click on custom watermark
  4. Click on text watermark
  5. Click on text, type or choose the text of your choice
  6. Click on size and colour and choose
  7. Click on diagonal or horizontal
  8. Click on apply and close.

HOW TO REMOVE PRINTED WATER MARK

  1. Click on page-layout
  2. Click on watermark
  3. Click on custom watermark
  4. Click on no-watermark
  5. Click on apply and close.
